In the early 80's thru out the late 90's hawaii was the surfing mecca in the pacific and established itself as the capital of surf junkies world wide. Instead of thinking about how you re going to get your board into your car and how you re going to feel after your first wipeout, your most important thought should be what beach am I going to choose to get acclimated with my board and which beach is going to be easiest for me to catch my first waves.
Make sure your wetsuit fits well, otherwise you could get rashes in all sorts of places. While there is definitely a lot more to surfing, these are two things to master. For instance, if you are beginner, you will want to start out on a softboard or a longboard, which will meet the six inch rule of thumb easily.
